Girls'Day 2022 as a hybrid event with ITONBOARD

20 third grade middle and high school girls got an insight into the world of IT in a hybrid event with ITONBOARD.

At 9am ten girls aged 12-13 arrived at the office of ITONBOARD partner Klein & Partner KG in Völs, Tirol, Austria. They came for Girls'Day, with the aim to get an insight into the web industry.

After a welcome and a first face to face meeting, we met via Jitsi video conference with our partners and another ten remote Girls'Day participants from Germany to introduce the girls to the web industry.

We picked out three professional fields that are essential for software development: Backend Programming, Frontend Development & Design and Project Management.

As part of the Erasmus Plus project, we have been creating different tools and guidance for career orientation in IT, the ITONBOARD project, in cooperation with four other partner companies from Germany, Italy and Spain.

The moderation was done by Christine Ihnen and her intern Anna from IFCenter Madrid. There was a live link to Lisbon, Portugal to Stefania Trabucchi from Abstract Technology, who interviewed IT project manager Eden Hutmacher from the Center for Reimagining Learning (tCRIL) at the OpenEDX Conference.

Jörg Zell gave an overview of various IT professions from Kerpen, Germany. And then we did the ITONBOARD e-learning courses on the three IT professions in small groups. Afterwards, the 20 girls collaboratively designed a poster for each of the three professions on Miro-Board. In the Stand Up Meeting, the girls presented their work.

At noon, we said goodbye to the online participants. After a midday snack, the Austrian girls were allowed to try out the new Escape Game from the ITONBOARD program as beta testers for the first time in Tyrol. The girls had a lot of fun!

While the girls were having fun getting informed about jobs in IT, we watched them using our materials in order to use this input for future improvements.

9 girls are standing around a conference table holding computers in their hand and reading from them while talking.

3 girls on a table with sweets and soft drink bottles sitting in front of their computers watching their screens while discussing and writing or drawing on Post Its.

10 girls around a conference table watching an interview on a large screen.
